Happy Friday, everyone! I'm looking forward to closing week 1 on a great note, and I have three quality picks for my readers today.
Things seem to be trending up, too, after finishing yesterday with my first non-losing day of the week.
Nothing better than free cash for the weekend!
MLB
Tigers F5 ML +245
As you can see, this pick is a doozie, and in my honest opinion, I couldn't tell you why the line is this heavily in favor of the Blue Jays.
Toronto is coming off of two straight series losses, so it's not like this is some hot team either.
I'm not crazy enough to call for a win, I just think Detroit will get off to a quicker start than the Jays.
The Tigers are a team that loves their lefties, as you saw yesterday, and they will be hitting against another one today with Toronto sending out Robbie Ray to start for them.
On the flip side, the Blue Jays DO NOT love their lefties, and Tyler Alexander is starting for the Tigers today.
That means Detroit will likely get to Ray early leaving the Jays struggling to answer.
I'm not calling for a win by any means because who else saw their eight-run collapse yesterday afternoon?! First five innings is the play here, and there's a fantastic chance for a HEFTY payday.
Rockies -1.5 -105
There are tons of things to love about this game.
To start, I'm back on the "lefty versus the D-Backs" trend because losing 23 of 32 games where they face one is absurd. Austin Gomber isn't some scrub either. Like he's a *good* lefty.
I wouldn't be surprised if Arizona puts up a goose egg tonight on the scoreboard.
On the flip side, the Rockies are home, a place where they enjoy much success. Colorado also hits lefties hard, and Arizona is sending out southpaw Tyler Gilbert to pitch tonight. If that name sounds familiar, yes that was the guy who no-hit the Padres last week.
I'm willing to bank on Gilbert having a rude awakening as opposed to him keeping that up.
The Rockies are also 19-7 as a betting favorite, and the D-Backs are, well, not good as an underdog.
Padres -1.5 -105
I feel like everything that could have fallen into place has for this game (except for Blake Snell pitching because you NEVER know what's going to happen).
First of all, the Phillies are embarrassingly subpar on the road, and it was on full display this week as they got swept BY THE DIAMONDBACKS. If Philly can't beat one of the National League's bottom-feeders one time out of three away from home, I have a hard time seeing them compete with the Padres.
Secondly, the Phillies are 17-21 against lefties, and although Snell is a mixed bag, I believe this will be one of the rare times we see flashbacks to his Cy Young-winning year in 2018.
The Phillies will be sending out lefty Matt Moore to start this one, and that only sweetens things for San Diego as they win just about two out of three games where a lefty starts for the opposing team.
The Padres must be happy to return to Petco Park as well after dropping three to the Rockies in their last series, and I think it'll show in their play tonight.
That's all, folks! Hopefully we will be using our winnings to celebrate with some "free" drinks tonight instead of paying for them to drink our sorrows away. Let's have a Friday!
