Happy Hump Day everyone! Just like the average work week, I'm currently going through the roughest part of my betting week. You know what Wednesday is for, though? Getting over that hump!
I would love to throw tons of picks out there, but I simply haven't been in love with the games this week at all, as you can see from the results and the lack of plays.
Today I have three picks, but as a sneak peek for tomorrow, I will have baseball AND football to go over. Love this time of year!
MLB
Braves -1.5 -110
I have the Braves starting out this fantastic Wednesday with a win by at least two over the Nationals.
The biggest thing I saw about this game was the pitching on Washington's side. Sean Nolin, a lefty, will be starting the game, and he is still looking for his first win on the year. Better yet, each loss has been by more than two runs AND has been against a team that doesn't hit left-handers hard.
My thought process is if those teams can kill this guy, what will the Braves - a team that excels against lefties - do to him?
It doesn't hurt to have the Nationals away either where they are a dreadful 24-42 this season! To pile on the pain, when Washington is a betting underdog, they are 26-62! So, they lose in this spot MORE than two out of three times!
This is probably my lock of the night. Place your bets!
Reds ML -111
I'm not scared of the streak the Cubs have been on because they've been beating bad teams.
The last thing the Reds want to do is drop a series to a team that has no reason to win, too.
The Cubs may be better at home, but their 26-51 record as an underdog and 45-55 record against right-handed pitching is enough for me to get past that.
Additionally, the Reds will be hitting against Alec Mills tonight, who they have raked against this whole season. He has lost all three games played this year against Cincinnati and has given up at least three runs in two of them.
On the other side, Vladimir Gutierrez is pitching for the Reds, and while he lost two out of three games against the Cubs, he has dominated them.
If Gutierrez at least gets some run support, I have the Reds winning easily.
Padres -1.5 -130
After a great start to the year, the Padres have been killing me as of late whenever I bet on them.
Tonight, I'm ready to get hurt again.
Yu Darvish is on the mound against an Angels team that doesn't hit righties too well (although that has changed in recent games for whatever reason). Yes, he has been struggling, but tonight he's at home and he was playing teams in his division for the last five games - teams that likely know him more than most.
Mike Mayers is starting for the Angels, and he has been equally if not more bad than Darvish.
He has lost 12 of his last 15 appearances! I feel like Darvish is due for a win while this guy may just have some bad luck surrounding him.
The Padres are also trying desperately to win while the Angels are not.
Take the Padres to split the two-game series with Los Angeles.
