Well, yesterday was eventful.
As for the good, got my first dub! My most confident play of the day hit, and that's something to feel real good about. As for the bad, A's starting pitcher Chris Bassitt was bleeding out of his head in the second inning. I don't say "maybe I deserve a pass for that one" very often, but that obviously sucked the life out of Oakland as playing a baseball game must have been the last thing on the players' minds.
Also congrats to the Yanks for sweeping the double-header and dismantling a team that a month ago was considered a force to be reckoned with in the American League. Didn't see that one coming.
For today, I have four games to talk about. Let's make some money!
MLB
Giants ML -145
We have firmly entered "fade the Mets" territory.
The Mets have dropped five straight, and I see that streak continuing today.
To start, the road may not be the best place to break out of a funk for New York as they are 23-37 away from home on the year.
New York is also a team that struggles against the best of teams, going 18-30 so far in games where they aren't favored.
Having Anthony DeSclafani on the mound for the Giants doesn't make things much easier. He is 7-2 at home when he pitches with both losses coming at the hands of the Dodgers (understandable). As a matter of fact, he hasn't given up more than three runs at home all season versus teams not named the Dodgers, so I expect a gem from him today.
As for the Giants' bats, they hit righties very hard, and the Mets are sending out Tylor Megill today, who has been struggling on the road as of late, giving up eight combined runs in his last two road starts.
Being at home will only help the offense too I would think.
Angels F5 ML -140
I believe the Angels have a real edge in this one.
First of all, Shohei Ohtani is pitching in this one, and his team has won 8 of his last 10 starts with one coming against the Tigers in an impressive six-inning, one run showing.
Why am I giving off these stats if I'm only betting first five, though? Well, the Angels' bullpen is within the bottom 10 in the league. My biggest fear would be Ohtani throwing a hell of a game only for the relievers to throw it away.
As for the other side, the Tigers are sending out Tarik Skubal to start this one, and Los Angeles has found success against southpaws. With that, I expect the Angels to hop on them early while Ohtani holds down the fort defensively.
If the Angels blow it later, that one's not on me.
White Sox -1.5 +110
I really have been covering a lot of ground in this series haven't I!
After picking the A's in the first two games (and being wrong), I decided to flip to the other side for game three.
There are LOTS of things to love about this play. First, and most obviously, the White Sox come into this game with a 41-21 record at home. ...Nice. They also have a 21-12 record against lefties (Cole Irvin is pitching today). ...Cool. Chicago is also 60-33 as a favorite. ...Fantastic.
If things weren't attractive enough for this game, White Sox ace Lance Lynn is pitching tonight where all of his wins on the year have been by at least two runs but one (last week's Field of Dreams game, and if you watched it, you can give him a pass).
I think the Sox will continue to assert their dominance on the A's and send them on their way to losses in five of six games.
Phillies -1.5 -105
I usually try to stay away from the Phillies on the road, but this game was impossible to not take.
Not much analysis went into this play except for one of the worst trends in baseball: the Diamondbacks against lefties.
They are a dreadful 8-23 in that spot, meaning they lose about three out of four times this happens!
For this game, I'm just assuming the Philly wins and praying they cover the run line.
Those are my bets for today! Let's start a winning streak and have a Wednesday!
