Matt's Picks of the Day (1-1 week; 14-14-1 overall)

Welcome back!

Didn't think I'd be saying this if it were a week ago, but the Yankees screwed me out of an undefeated day yesterday after nailing a pretty effortless parlay.

I've been very particular with my plays as of late, usually giving only two to three plays, but today is going to be like Christmas for anyone looking at this page because I have FOUR PICKS today!

Lots to love about this slate, and I'm just hoping I don't get burned.

As the Black Eyed Peas once said, let's get it started!

MLB

Blue Jays/Astros ML parlay +119

The parlay is back for another appearance today!

Like I said yesterday, fading the Orioles is a good play any day of the week at this point as long as the team playing them is at least slightly competent.

The Orioles find themselves in a big mismatch today with Hyun Jin Ryu taking the mound for the Blue Jays and Keegan Akin pitching for Baltimore. Ryu is 3-0 against the Orioles on the year with him generally dominating in every game while Akin has one win in his last 13 starts...

Akin also gave up six runs in his lone appearance versus Toronto this season.

I don't need to do any more explaining in order to convince anyone this is a good idea.

As for the Astros, they are winners of five of their last six games, and Lance McCullers, Jr. is taking the mound tonight. He is much better on the road than at home having won eight of his ten road starts, and Houston finds themselves at Seattle in this one.

The Mariners are losers of four of five and are sending out Yusei Kikuchi to pitch tonight, a man that has given up 16 runs to the Astros over four starts this season.

I'll take the streaking Astros to win straight up against the reeling Mariners.

Marlins ML +157

I'm going to keep it short here and say that you know the trend. I love taking the loser of game one of a double header in game two.

The Marlins dominated the mets for basically the whole game until their bullpen blew it, and I expect them to pick up where they left off offensively in a shortened game.

Love Miami and love the value here.

Yankees -1.5 -130

You know how in roulette a popular strategy is to increase your bet after each loss when betting colors because the odds are 50/50 and you HAVE to win eventually?

Well, I'll be taking a similar approach here by picking a fantastic team that is in the midst of a three-game losing streak. They have to snap the funk eventually, and I think tonight will be the night.

Jameson Taillon is on the mound for New York, and he is in the midst of an insane run, going 11-1 in his last 12 starts. Additionally, the Angels do not love their right-handed pitchers, and Taillon is a good one - or at least he has been recently.

The Yanks offense is still there; the pitching is the only thing that needs to improve, and I think a Taillon start will be exactly what the doctor ordered tonight to get them back in the win column.

Braves +1.5 -135

If you know me, I almost never take plus points with a run line. If a team isn't favored, I usually just opt for the money line because it's a better value, but a trend in tonight's game is absolute bonkers.

Charlie Morton is pitching tonight for the Braves, and yeah, we know, he's good. What less people know is that he's covered the run line IN EACH OF HIS LAST 18 STARTS!

The Braves aren't some dreadful team either. They are pretty hot!

Walker Buehler is pitching on the other side here, but despite being, well, fantastic, he loves close games because the Dodgers just hate giving him run support.

Los Angeles has also lost or failed to cover the run line in three of his last five starts.

I'm not calling for some Atlanta massacre over here. I may even be calling for a loss by one run. I just know it's going to be a low-scoring, emotional contest out in La-La Land tonight.

Thanks for reading! I'll be back tomorrow with some new picks while hopefully celebrating a big day today!
