Matt's Picks of the Day (0-0 week; 13-13-1 overall)

Good evening, everyone, and welcome to the first edition of this week's picks!

This will be the last week of basically only baseball because, thankfully, football is back for real next week! Basketball and baseball may be my specialty sports, but football is by far the most fun sport to place some money on, or at least for me.

As for my recent performance, I ended last week 8-3-1 and I'm back to a 50% hit rate on my picks. That was exactly what I needed after my debut week from Hell.

So, instead of playing catchup, I will be playing for plus money territory this week, and I have two plays tonight to get this last week of August started on a good note.

Here we go!

MLB

Blue Jays/Dodgers ML parlay -106

I believe this is the first parlay I will be taking since I've started posting picks!

The thing with today is I'm not a fan of a lot of the games, but I do love these two heavy favorites. I'm not comfortable with taking a run line with either team today either, so I thought a parlay was the best route.

With the Orioles, I feel like betting against them any day of the week is a good play as long as the team playing them is at least the tiniest bit competent. Baltimore is 2-8 in their last 10, so I'm not looking for some insane trend.

Things aren't going to be any easier for the Orioles today either as they will be batting against one of the Cy Young favorites in the AL: Robbie Ray.

Is he a fantastic pitcher? Absolutely, but for whatever reason, Toronto struggles to give him any kind of run support when he's on the mound.

I see the Blue Jays winning a weirdly close game by maybe even one rune, but that's all I need.

As for the Dodgers, they haven't lost back-to-back games dating back to exactly a month ago today. Having dropped one yesterday (including two of three to the Rockies!), this trend is in play once again.

That, obviously, isn't enough to warrant me betting on a game, but the Dodgers being at home (43-23 on the year) and playing Drew Smyly, a lefty (24-14 against lefties on the year), is enough to get me to pull the trigger.

Additionally, Julio Urias is pitching for the Dodgers, and he's been pretty easy to track this year. With only a few exceptions, I've seen that when Urias pitches well against a team the first time around, things usually stay the same the second time. The exact principle applies to when he has a bad game versus a team the first time he plays them.

How did he pitch against the Braves earlier in the year, do you ask? Well, he pitched five innings, allowing only four hits and one run in a win.

I envision a similar result this time around and a parlay that is basically money in the bank.

Yankees -1.5 -120

There really hasn't been a better play in recent weeks than the New York Yankees.

Having weirdly dropped two in a row to the A's last weekend after their big winning streak got snapped, I think this will be a good return-to-form game for the Yanks.

I already talked about what to do when the Yankees are playing a right-handed pitcher (you bet on them), and I will be doing the same tonight.

This offense will be electric. Defensively, the Angels struggle against right-handers, and Corey Kluber is making his long-awaited return! I don't believe the Angels are going to rain on his parade tonight as the Yankees coast to an easy victory in Anaheim.

That's all for today! Check back tomorrow for some more plays! Bet responsibly, and have a great Monday!
